The Difference Between Then And Now

I am beginning to have some serious issues with all the naïve people who state that today’s (illegal) immigrants are no different than the millions of people who emigrated here starting back at the beginning of the 1900’s.

There are some VERY distinct differences.

These are the things they DID.

OUR ancestors spent weeks coming to the U.S. on ships from all across Europe.
They stood in long lines at places like Ellis Island, waiting to be documented.
They made a pledge to follow the laws of their new country.
They made learning English a priority.
They did al they could to assimilate themselves and their children into the culture of their new country.

These are the things they DIDN’T do.

Sneak across the borders.
Demand that signs in stores, product labels, etc. to be printed in their native language.
Place the flag of their native country above the Stars and Stripes.
Think they were entitled to free health care.
Line up for welfare, child support, rent subsidies, etc.
Feel that the government should be responsible for taking care of their children, spending millions of dollars to teach their kids English because they couldn’t be bothered to learn it themselves, and on and on.

And they surely did not expect that they could retain every facet of life in their native country while refusing to adopt the culture of the country they came to.

LEGALLY I MIGHT ADD!
